Staff Scientist - Chemometrics / Signal Processing

Responsible for developing data processing and discrimination algorithms for Alakai's advanced generation of laser spectroscopic chemical detection systems in collaboration with a team of scientists and engineers at Alakai's Florida and Missouri offices, affiliated universities, and sponsoring government agencies. The successful candidate will have demonstrated substantial innovation, discovery, initiative, problem solving, and both theoretical and applied scientific skills. In addition, the candidate will have demonstrated advanced level experience via peer-reviewed publications, reports, patents, or similar works. The selected applicant will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Minimum Experience &
Responsibilities:
Ph.D. in chemometrics, applied statistics, mathematics or a related discipline with at least 5 years work experience , or B.S. with 10 years minimum related work experience.
Spectral processing / analysis techniques, particularly as applies to Spectral processing, or similar optical spectroscopy methods
Spectral processing such as PCA / PLS
Classification / Discriminant analysis techniques, such as PLS-DA
Excellent written and oral communications skills
Eligible for DoD Secret clearance
Desirable Experience &
Responsibilities:
10 years work experience
Optical spectroscopy, particularly Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS), Raman, Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF), etc.
Experience with detection of trace chemical, biological, or explosive threat materials.
Preparation of proposals and grants, and project management
Experience working for or collaborating with U.S. government research funding agencies such as DOD, DHS, NIST, NIH, national labs, etc.
Programming, especially in a Matlab environment
Prior military, defense, or aerospace industry experience
Active DoD Secret clearance
